Psalm 53

 PSALM 53

Tune: LEAF 86.866

1  The fool has spoken in his heart,
    "There sure-ly is no God."
    Unjust, abhorrent works they do,
    in-tend-ing to cause harm.
Not one of them does good.

2  God gaz-es down from heav-en high
    up-on the hu-man race,
to see what their be-hav-ior is.
    Does an-y under-stand?
    Does an-y seek God's face?

3  Each from the right way turned a-side
to have his own way done.
    To-geth-er they be-came cor-rupt,
not one of them does good,
    no, not a sin-gle one.

4  But these who work such wick-ed-ness,
do they not know at all?
Do they just eat my peo-ple up
the way they eat their bread?
On God they do not call.

5  Where once they had no cause to fear,
    there they are terrorized.
God strewed the bones of these your foes.
And you have caused them shame,
    since God has them despised.

6  From Zion who will come to save,
    and help to Isr'el bring?
God brings His captive people back!
    Then Jacob will rejoice,
    and Isr'el shout and sing!

Ps.53 vs.5 insert:
There they were in great terror
and they were much dismayed
though there was no cause why they
should be at all afraid.
