Psalm 122

1 I was glad to hear them saying,
"To the LORD's house let us go."
2 For our feet will soon be standing
in your gates, Jerusalem,
3 Salem, well constructed city;
4 There assemble all the tribes,
Tribes that are Jehovah's own.

This the ordinance for Isr'el,
Here to thank Jehovah's name.
5 There are set the thrones of judgment;
There is David's house enthroned.
6 Pray then for the peace of Salem;
May they prosper who love you.
7 be there peace within your walls.

8 In your palaces be safety.
For the sake of brothers all,
For the sake of my companions,
9 I am saying "Peace to you!"
For Jehovah's house within you,
temple of the LORD our GOD,
I will ever seek your good.

Tune: Guide

Psalm 121

1 To the hills I lift my eyes; whence shall help for me arise?
2 from the LORD will come my aid: he the heaven and earth has made.
3 may he not your foot let slip, nor your guardian ever sleep.
4 Lo! the one who Isr'el keeps, slumbers not and never sleeps.

5 He who keeps you is the LORD; GOD's the shade at your right hand.
6 Sun will not hurt you by day, neither will the moon by night.
7 GOD will keep you from all ill, keep your life in safety still.
8 In the home and on the way GOD will guard now and alway.

Psalm 120

1 I cried in trouble to the LORD, and he has answered me.
2 From lying lips and crafty tongue, O LORD, my soul set free.

3 What shall be given you, false tongue? What added to your doom?
4 Sharp arrows of a mighty man, and red hot coals of broom.

5 Alas for me, that I sojourn so long in Meshech's land,
That I have made my dwelling where the tents of Kedar stand!

6 Too long my soul has made its home with those who peace abhor.
7 I am for peace, but when I speak they ready are for war.

Psalm 119: 169-176

169 Before you let my cry come near, O LORD; true to your word, teach me.
170 Before you let my pleading come; true to your promise rescue me.
171 My lips are breaking forth in praise; teach me your statutes to confess.
172 Yea of your word my tongue shall sing: all your commands are righteousness.

173 Be ready with your hand to help, because your precepts are my choice.
174 I've longed for your salvation, LORD,and in your holy law rejoice.
175 O let your ordinances help; my soul shall live and praise you yet.
176 A straying sheep, your servant seek, for your commands I ne'er forget.

Psalm 119:161-168

161 The princes causelessly pursue; but words from you my heart reveres.
162 I at your promise joy as one for whom abundant spoil appears.
163 I falsehood hate and lies abhor;  but in your law is my delight.
164 I praise you seven times a day because your judgments all are right.

165 Great peace have those who love your law; for them there is no stumbling block.
166 I hope for your salvation, LORD, and I in your commandments walk.
167 My soul your testimonies keeps and deeply loves; my heart obeys
168 your precepts, testimonies all, because before you are my ways.

6/20/11

Psalm119:153-160

153 Regard my grief and rescue me, for I your law do not forget.
154 As you have promised, quicken me. Your promise keep; revive me yet.

155 Salvation's far from wicked men; your statutes they'll not try to see.
156 How many are your mercies, LORD! Fulfill your judgments, quicken me.

157 My persecutors many are, yet from your law I do not swerve.
158 I saw the faithless and was grieved, for they your law do not observe.

159 Behold, how I your precepts love! O LORD, in kindness quicken me.
160 The sum of all your words is truth; your judgments stand eternally.

Psalm 119:145-152

145 My heart cries out! LORD, answer me! And I your statutes will obey.
146 O save me, for I've called to you; your testimonies I'll display.
147 I rose before the dawn and cried; for by your word my hope is stirred.
148 I wake throughout the hours of night to meditate upon your word.

149 In mercy listen to my voice; in judgment, LORD, my life renew.
150 Those plotting ill draw ever near, far from your law their way pursue.
151 But you, O LORD, are ever near, and true are all of your commands.
152 Your testimonies make me sure that what you say forever stands.

6/18/11

Psalm 119:137-144

137 You ever righteous are, O LORD; and all your judgments upright stand.
138 Your righteous testimonies all you do in faithfulness command.
139 By zeal I am consumed, because your words mine adversaries spurn.
140 Your promise is so very pure, toward it your servant loves to turn.

141 Though I am small and much despised, your precepts I do not forget.
142 Eternal is your righteousness; your law in truth is firmly set.
143 Distress and anguish have me found, yet joy by your commands you give.
144 Your testimonies righteous are; O make me wise that I may live.

6/17/11

Psalm 119:129-136

129 Your testimonies I observe, for they are wondrous in mine eyes.
130 The op'ning of your word give light, and makes the simplehearted wise.
131 I open wide my mouth and pant for all commandments you proclaim.
132 O turn to me! Deal graciously as to all those who love your name.

133 My steps establish in your word and let no sin o'er me have sway.
134 Redeem me from the power of man, and I your precepts will obey.
135 Your face make on your servant shine; teach me your statutes; for I weep;
136 The tears in streams flow from mine eyes, because your law they do not keep.

6/16/11

Psalm 119: 121-128

121 To others I have judgment done, performing what is right;
       O do not then deliver me to my oppressor's might.

122 Be surety for your servant's good; from proud oppressors free;
123 your saving help and righteous word my failing eyes would see.

124 In mercy with your servant deal; your statutes to me show;
125 I am your servant; wisdom give that I your laws may know.

126 'Tis time you work, O LORD, for they make void your law divine.
127 Your precepts therefore more I love than gold, yea, gold most fine.

128 Concerning all things your commands I therefore judge are right;
       and ev'ry false and wicked way is hateful in my sight.
Tune: Dundee (C M)

6/15/11

Psalm 119: 113-120

113 The men of double mind I hate; your law my love has stirred!
114 You are my shield and hiding place; my hope is in your word.

115 Depart, illdoers, that I may my God's commandments heed.
116 Sustain as you have promised me that I may live indeed.

117 Quench not my hope, but hold me safe; your statutes I'll respect.
118 All those who from your statutes err, in scorn you do reject.

      How useless their deceitfulness! In falsehood is no gain.
119 You do the wicked purge from earth like dross, that none remain,

120 so I your testimonies love. My flesh is quivering
      for fear of you; and deepest awe your judgments surely bring.

6/14/11

Psalm 119:105-112

105 Your word's a lamp to guide my feet, a shining light upon my way.
106 I've bound myself with oath and pledge, your rulings just all to obey.

107 I've suffered much; renew my life, O LORD, according to your word.
108 Accept the offerings of my lips, and make me know your precepts, LORD.

109 My life is always in my hand, yet I your law do not forget.
110 I from your precepts have  not strayed, though snares for me the wicked set.

111 Your word's my lasting heritage, and truly makes my heart rejoice.
112 To keep your statutes faithfully shall always be my willing choice.
Tune:  Louvan LM

6/13/11

Psalm 119:97-104

97  O how I love your law; it is my study all the day.
98  It makes me wiser than my foes; its precepts with me stay.
99  More than my teachers or the old your servant understands;
100 your testimonies I consult and follow your commands.

101 I stayed my feet from evil ways that I your word observe;
102 I have been taught by you and from your judgments will not swerve.
103 How sweet in taste your promises, than honey far more sweet!
104 Your precepts understanding give; I therefore hate deceit.

6/12/11

Psalm 119:89-96

89 Your word endures for ever, LORD; it firmly stands throughout the heav'ns.
90 Your faithfulness lasts for all time; you made the earth and it remains.

91 For they stand firm and fast today, and, as your servants, do your will.
92 I, too if I'd not loved your law, would in my troubles be consumed.

93 Never will I neglect your rules, for by them you keep me in life.
94 Yes, I am yours, so save me now, for I have sought to keep your words.

95 The wicked would destroy my life, but on your laws I meditate.
96 All human thoughts are limited, but full and boundless is your will.

6/11/11

Psalm 119:81-88

81 Longing my soul for your precious salvation,
     faint yet I put all my hope in your word.
82 Dim are mine eyes for your word, while I'm saying,
     "When will you give me your comfort deferred?"

83 I'm like a wineskin in smoke that is withered,
     yet I your statutes will never forget.
84 What are the days to your servant remaining?
     When will you judge those who me have beset?

85 Proud men have digged hidden pits to ensnare me,
     men who are not with your law in accord.
86 All your commandments are faithfulness ever;
     wrongly they persecute; help now afford.

87 Here on the earth they had almost consumed me;
     yet from your precepts I never will swerve.
88 Quicken me after your great loving-kindness;
     I'll your declared testimonies observe.
Tune: Morning Star (11.10.11.10)

Psalm 119: 73-80

73 Your hands created me; make wise, all your commands to learn.
74 May those who fear you see with joy how to your word I turn.

75 I know, O LORD, that righteous are your judgments one and all,
    and that in faithfulness you have let trouble on me fall.

76 O let your steadfast love cheer me, as promised to your slave.
77 May your compassion bring me life; your law great pleasure gave.

78 O may the arrogant be shamed who falsely me accuse
     to overturn me; yet I shall upon your precepts muse.

79 To me all turn, who fearing you, your testimonies claim.
80 Let my heart in your statutes be united, without shame.
Tune: Maitland (C M)

Psalm 119:65 - 72

65 According to your word, O LORD, you have your servant blessed.
66 Teach me good judgment, knowledge give; on your commands I rest.

67 Ere I afflicted was I strayed; your word I now obey.
68 For good you are and you do good; teach me your statutes' way.

69 The proud besmear with lies, but I your precepts keep aright.
70 Their heart is buried deep in fat; your law is my delight.

71 It has been very good for me that I was humbled low.
     It through affliction was that I your statutes came to know.

72 The law proceeding from your mouth I much more precious hold
     than countless thousands of fine coins of silver and of gold.
Tune: Maitland (CMD)

Psalm 119:57 - 64

57 The LORD my portion is; I've said I'll keep your words to me.
58 I've sought your face with all my heart; as promised, gracious be.

59 I viewed my ways, turned my feet toward your testimonies' way.
60 I hastened your commands to keep; my feet made no delay.

61 The wicked wrapped me 'round with cords; your law I did not slight.
62 I'll rise at midnight, thanking you for all your judgments right.

63 I'm with those who your precepts keep and all those fearing you.
64 Your mercy fills the earth, O LORD; teach me your laws to do.
Tune: Maitland (CM)

Memorizing verses 59 and 60 is a good idea for parents with their young children.  Then remind them that the LORD expects obedience with no delay.

Psalm 119:49 - 56

49 The promise keep in mind which you did to your servant make,
     the word which as a ground of hope you have caused me to take.

50 By this in time of my distress great comfort I have known:
     for in my straits I am revived by this your word alone.

51 The men whose hearts with pride are filled did greatly me deride;
     yet from your good and holy law I have not turned aside.

52 Your righteous judgments which you did make known of old, O LORD,
     I have remembered, and to me they comfort did afford.

53 Great wrath took hold of me because ill men your law forsake.
54 I in my house of pilgrimage your laws my songs do make.

55 Your name by night, LORD, I recalled, and I have kept your law.
56 And this I had because that I your precepts kept with awe.

Psalm 119:41- 48

41 O let your lovingkindnesses come unto me, O LORD.
     May your salvation also come according to your word.

42 Then I shall answer him who taunts, for in your word I trust.
43 Take not from me the word of truth; I wait your judgments just.

44 I'll keep forever, evermore, the law which you do speak.
45 And I will walk at liberty for I your precepts seek.

46 I'll of your testimonies speak to kings and not be shamed.
47 In your commandments which I love I'll find the joy I've claimed.

48 To your commandments which I love my hands I'll dedicate,
    and in your statutes evermore I'll deeply meditate.

Psalm 119: 33-40

33 Teach me, O LORD, your statutes' way; I'll keep it to the end.
34 O make me wise; to keep your law my whole heart shall attend.
35 Make me to follow your commands, for they my joy maintain.
36 Your testimonies claim my heart; keep me from love of gain.

37 Revive me in your way and turn mine eyes from vanity.
38 I am devoted to your fear; confirm your word to me.
39 O turn away my feared reproach, for good your judgments be.
40 Behold, I for your precepts longed; in justice quicken me.
Tune: Stockton (C M D)
Notice the use of way in 33 and 37.  Its his way that I need to be in for my joy (35).

Psalm 119:25-32

25 My soul has cleaved to dust; revive according to your word.
26 Teach me your statutes; when my ways I've told, you have me heard.
27 Make me to know your precept's way, your wonders to review.
28 My soul melts down with grief; my strength, as you have said, renew.

29 The way of falsehood take from me; grant me your law in grace.
30 I chosen have the way of truth; your statutes have first place.
31 I to your testimonies cleave; O LORD, no shame impart.
32 I'll run the way of your commands; for you'll set free my heart.
Tune: Stockton ( C M D)

Psalm 119:17-24

17 O do in bounty deal with me, because I keep your way,
     that by your favor I may live; I will your word obey.
18 Unveil mine eyes, that in your law the wonders I may see.
19 I stranger am on earth; hide not all your commands from me.

20 My soul is crushed because I for your ordinances yearn.
21 You have rebuked the proud, accursed, from your commands who turn.
22 O do remove contempt from me; take my reproach away;
     for I your testimonies still observe and will obey.

23 The princes high against me speak their counsel to fulfill,
     but I, your servant, meditate upon your statutes still.
24 Your testimonies also are my comfort and delight;
     they are as men who counsel me and lead my steps aright.

Psalm 119:9-16 paraphrase 1912

How shall the young direct their way?
What light shall be their perfect guide?
Thy word, O Lord, will safely lead,
If in its wisdom they confide.

Sincerely I have sought Thee, Lord,
O let me not from Thee depart;
To know Thy will and keep from sin
Thy word I cherish in my heart.

O blessed Lord, teach me Thy law,
Thy righteous judgments I declare;
Thy testimonies make me glad,
For they are wealth beyond compare.

Upon Thy precepts and Thy ways
My heart will meditate with awe;
Thy word shall be my chief delight,
And I will not forget Thy law.

Psalm 119:1-8

1 How blest the blameless in their way who from GOD’S law do not depart,

2 who, holding fast the word of truth, seek him with undivided heart.

3 Yea, they are kept from paths of sin who walk in his appointed way;

4 your precepts you have given us that we should faithfully obey.

5 My wav’ring heart is now resolved your holy statutes to fulfill;

6 No more shall I be brought to shame when I regard your holy will.

7 To you my praise sincere shall rise when I your righteous judgments learn;

8 forsake me not but be my guide, and from your statutes I’ll not turn.
